The Amazon River, originating in Peru, is a world of mystery, grandeur and romance. Its towering forest and rushing waters harbor such an incomparable diversity of life that scientists are still working to classify it all:

	2,000 species of fish, more than those in the Atlantic Ocean.
	4,000 species of birds, including 120 hummingbirds.
	60 species of reptiles such as the caiman and anaconda, the world´s largest non-poisonous snake.
	Mammals like the marmoset, anteater, tapir, capybara and pink dolphin.
At its widest point in Brazil, the mighty Amazon River is 40 miles across. Oceangoing vessels can sail the 2,300 miles from the Atlantic Ocean upriver to Iquitos, Peru`s major port on the Upper Amazon.

Iquitos is the starting point all Explorama's Peruvian Amazon Adventures to this Biodiversity Capital of the World.
Although no roads or railways connect Iquitos to the rest of Peru, it is easily accessible by air, with daily flights from Lima on LAN Peru and TANS.

A unique feature of the rainforest surrounding Iquitos is its lack of a specific rainy or dry season. There is a high water period from December through May which is caused by the melting of snow as the Andean summer begins and from the rainy season in the upper jungle. The low water period begins in June and ends with the rising waters in November.

While the water level can fluctuate more then 45 feet, the warm and humid climate remains relatively constant throughout the year, giving this area its botanical category of "Everwet
Tropical Forest". Normal daytime highs are 88° F and nighttime lows are 72°F.

Keep your baggage to a comfortable minimum. Without fail, bring a valid passport.Pack light, drip-dry cotton or safari clothing, including one long-sleeved shirt and sweater.Hiking shoes or sneakers, (jungle trails are frequently muddy), plastic raincoat or poncho.Include insect repellent, toilet articles, sunglasses, sunscreen, a wide brimmed hat, binoculars and small flashlight.

And finally, don't forget a camera with plenty of film to capture the memories of your Amazon Adventure.

The programs at Explorama's Lodges include the following:

	** All lodging and meals
	** Privately owned transport over land and water.
	** Airport arrival and departure transfers. Arrival after 4pm requires the first night in the Iquitos with transfer to Explorama’s lodges the following morning. We'll be happy to help you with hotel arrangements.
	** Local bilingual naturalist guides who accompany each guest throughout their program.
	** Personalized variations in length of stay and itinerary to suit individual interests.

Bar service, laundry, airport tax and airline tickets are NOT included in the tariff.

Explorama's lodges offer a wide variety of foods, both local and international, cooked in a simple and appetizing style and served in our tropical palm-thatched dining rooms.
Guests may return to the buffet as many times as they like!

Our breakfast includes one entree, a pastry selection, fruit and local fruit juice.

Our lunch and dinner buffet includes:

** One entree of chicken, beef, local fish or pasta and fresh salad.
** A variety of rice and bean dishes, hot vegetables, bread and butter.
** A choice of desserts including local fruits such as papaya or pineapple or
prepared desserts such as rice pudding or flan.

Complementary coffee, tea and drinking water are available 24 hours a day.
Bar service, including soft drinks, is also available at guest expense.

** Cancellations received in writing up to 30 days before arrival will not be charged. Cancellations received in writing from 29-07 days prior to arrival will be charged a US$100 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made 06 days or less before arrival nor for cancellations not received in writing.
